Policy Framework on Digital Financial Services for Women-led MSMEs in Latin America and the Caribbean

Intensive research conducted by AFI to develop a comprehensive understanding of the structural challenges women-led micro, small, and medium enterprises (WMSMEs) are facing across -its network, in particular in the Latin American and the Caribbean (LAC) region. Amarante LAC appreciated for its contribution in providing valuable insights to the report. The AFI report supported by our team of consultants involved in the assignment focuses on the challenges faced by women-led micro, small and medium enterprises (WMSMEs) in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region, and how digital financial services (DFS) can help overcome these challenges. It has two objectives: to assess the challenges faced by WMSMEs in the LAC region and to develop a policy framework to support their growth. The report highlights the lack of clear policies and definitions for gender equity development in the LAC region, emphasizing the need for regulators to create an environment that supports gender inclusivity, innovation, and infrastructure. The report also recommends developing a policy framework that supports WMSMEs in areas such as technology transfer, education, and access to information, as well as using movable assets to facilitate resource access. Additionally, the report suggests promoting a data-centric culture, creating financial research programs, and providing specialized training and mentoring to WMSMEs. Finally, it recommends revising land ownership and inheritance laws to ensure gender equality.
