
PAPU Digital Financial Services Workshop Underway in Arusha
The PAPU Digital Financial Services Workshop began on 11 December 2024 in Arusha, Tanzania, and continued until 13 December 2024. The event was formally inaugurated by PAPU Secretary General, Dr. Chief Moyo, with Assistant Secretary General Mrs Sengooba also present. The workshop brought together prominent stakeholders from both the postal and financial sectors to discuss how postal services can contribute to the growth of digital financial services across Africa.
Key partners, including the Universal Postal Union (UPU), VISA, Paytota, and several leading fintech organizations, were actively involved, shared their insights and expertise.
The objective of the workshop was to equip African postal operators with forward-thinking tools and strategies to leverage digital finance, enhance financial inclusion, and support the rapidly growing e-commerce sector.
Sahana Arun Kumar, Managing Director shared her vision on Post Offices that lies in enablement of digital and “phygital” public infrastructure projects, since these empower national strategies and initiatives for democratization of access to priority products and services, catalyzing aggregate growth in emerging markets and the Posts are an integral part of this. This workshop was also to get the postal community thinking about modernization , digitalization and transformation and the role they can play in advancing financial inclusion for their nations.
Attendees participated in dynamic sessions focused on exchanging knowledge, sharing successful approaches, and planning the future development of digital financial services within the postal framework. This effort supported PAPU’s broader goal of building a digitally advanced and inclusive postal network across the continent.
