Upon arrival in Uganda, the Ethiopost delegation was immediately immersed in a vibrant tapestry of financial inclusion initiatives and collaborative frameworks. From engagements with the FSDU to insightful sessions with the Uganda Banker’s Association (UBA), every interaction offered a nuanced understanding of the country’s DFS landscape.

One of the standout revelations for the Ethiopost team was the concept of Shared Agency Banking (SAB), spearheaded by the Uganda Banker’s Association. This innovative model underscored the power of collaboration, aligning stakeholders across the financial spectrum to drive inclusivity and accessibility. Through consensus-building and a consultative approach, the UBA showcased how regulatory frameworks and shared visions can pave the way for transformative change.

During the exposure visit in Uganda, Ethiopost had the opportunity to engage with various players in the digital financial services (DFS) ecosystem, including mobile money operators, merchant payment providers, aggregators, and other fintech innovators. This diverse array of stakeholders showcased the multifaceted benefits they bring to the table for advancing digital financial services.

Mobile Money Players: Ethiopost learned firsthand about the pivotal role mobile money operators play in facilitating financial transactions, particularly in areas with limited access to traditional banking services. By leveraging mobile money platforms, Ethiopost recognized the potential to reach unbanked and underbanked populations, providing them with convenient and secure means to manage their finances.

Merchant Payment Providers: Engaging with merchant payment providers shed light on the importance of seamless payment solutions for businesses of all sizes. Ethiopost discovered how these providers enable merchants to accept various forms of payments, including mobile money, thereby expanding their customer base and boosting sales. By integrating merchant payment solutions into its offerings, Ethiopost envisions enhancing financial inclusivity and driving economic growth.

Aggregators and Fintech Innovators: Meeting aggregators and fintech innovators highlighted the transformative potential of innovative technologies and business models in the DFS landscape. Ethiopost witnessed how these entities facilitate interoperability, create value-added services, and drive customer engagement through digital platforms. Inspired by their innovative approaches, Ethiopost aims to collaborate with aggregators and fintech innovators to co-create tailored solutions that address the evolving needs of Ethiopian consumers.
